This project provided a community solution for a public hub to be a ‘clubhouse’ as part of a skateboard park development.

The RMA regulated factors, however a good building platform allowing smooth access for the delivery of the pods and the ability to tap into local services, meant that the complexity of the project was reduced. The parameters of a predetermined budget kept the project tight and efficient.

Podular was initially requested to provide a concept scheme, so a striking and unique design that aligned with the culture of the people frequenting the park was proposed. Robust, modern, hard-wearing materials such as rusted steel and hardwood were integrated for functionality and aesthetics.

Mood

Rusted steel, hardwood and robust materials able to withstand and tolerate the elements and the heavy duty treatment as well as aesthetically align with the purpose of the dwelling and the people who frequent it, were all key to material choices.

Materials that only improve with time, as wear and tear and age add personality and character, expressing the history over time. This state of the art pod design features an aluminium base and roof flashings, a durable, open jointed rain screen; all design features of Podular.

Materiality

The material palette consists of substrates that create an architectural fusion of function, and timeless form This state-of-the-art pod design continues with Aluminum base and roof flashings and a durable, open jointed rain screen, one of the Podular’s design features.
